Vickie Karma
Human Trafficking in North Korea has become a serious business now. It is still growing its size. Vickie Karma, a professional human trafficking researcher, gathered information for years and came up with this statistic. She gathered information from many people who are under covered in sex industries and factories that use. However, this statistics is not 100% accurate due to vague and uncertain source of information. But it was closest that she could get to. Also, there are approximately 2 million people who got trafficked from North Korea to China living in China. This statistics excludes them (Proquest).
Statistics on Human trafficking in NK
Sex Trafficking
The victims of human trafficking in North Korea are forced to work in many harsh and illegal eras. Out of all, trafficking of North Korean women take up 38%, which is a lot out of over 10 types of human trafficking. This is because of the status of women in North Korea. Women don't have much rights in North Korea, they aren't considered as weak, important people that needs to be protected. Therefore, traffickers prefer capturing weak, vulnerable women because they are easier to capture and also easier to make bigger money out of them (Jeff).
Very few of purchasers of people who are trafficked are cannibals. They buy people to eat them because there's a myth that human fleshes are good for male. This myth was from ancient Chinese cult. However, there are still a few group of people believing in this myth. Some of the victims are used and consumed as food to selfish and cruel people. It is another sad and horrible side of human trafficking in North Korea (Jeff).
