North Korea, #1 Human Trafficking Country in the World.
Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that can regularly happen to ANYONE in North Korea...
Human Trafficking: the cruelest criminal action
A lot of people in North Korea are the victims of human trafficking. They are kidnapped or sold by traffickers and forced into labor, and sex industries. Out of them, the #1 victims of human trafficking in North Korea are women. The most common form of women trafficking involves forced marriage and prostitution in China. These victims are forced to work in internet sex industry and hostesses in nightclubs. Researchers of NGOs estimate that over tens of thousands North Koreans are living in northeastern China; most of them are victims of human trafficking. Out of them, over 70% are North Korean women (Hilsum).
Victims receive nothing but punishments..
Even though these victims were trafficked, North Korean Government considers these people as illegal betrayers who have left the country without permission. Therefore, if these victims are spotted by Chinese official while in China, they are sent back to North Korea, where they will receive harsh and cruel punishment or get tortured. Sometimes, these innocent victims also get imprisoned for years or get executed. Poor victims are forced to hide and get abused in China away from their family and friends back in North Korea. While trafficked, victims receive poor care and are placed in harsh conditions. Those who are subject to forced labor, including mining, logging and farming are forced to work for long hours without eating, or drinking barely anything (Chun). Conditions are worse for women who are forced into sex industries. They lack food, enough sleep, and clean condition. Also, they are abused almost everyday 24/7. Due to harsh conditions, these victims are always ill and in worst case, they die (Chosun).
